Happy May Day,everyone! To celebrate(庆祝) this important festival ,I'd like to introduce the origin (起源)of May day.
May Day , also named as the International Labor Day(国际劳动节),give us total seven holidays for us to enjoy ourselves.OK ,let us learn the following materials(内容) about may day.
May Day name popularly(通常) given to the first day of May, which for centuries(好几世纪) has been celebrated among(在...之中) the Latin(拉丁的) and Germanic(德国的) peoples.
May Day festivals probably stem from (起源于)the rites(仪式，典礼)practiced in honor of(为向...表示敬意)Flora, the Roman goddess(女神) of spring. May Day is currently(现在,一般) celebrated as a festival for children marking the reappearance(再现) of flowers during the spring. It is traditionally(传统上) greeted with joyous(快乐的) dancing around a garlanded(花环) pole, called a maypole(五月柱舞), from which hang streamers(系着纸彩带) held by the dancers. May Day is also celebrated in many European countries(欧洲各国) as a labor holiday, comparable to(和...相当) Labor Day in the United States. It was especially(尤其) significant(有意义的) in the Soviet Union(苏联) and other Communist countries(共产主义国家). Observance(遵守) of the holiday by some workers in Europe and the U.S. probably dates from(来源于) the celebration of May Day by the first congress(国会) (1889) of the Second International, an assembly(集会) of socialist(社会主义者) and labor parties(工党).
